The membership of these associations/committees depends upon the aptitude and the voluntary participation of individuals. Members are mostly students. Even though voluntary in nature, students are strongly encouraged to join some of these associations. In the case of some of these bodies, their formation and organisation are the responsibility of students. They are aimed at encouraging social, pastoral, and educational activities among the seminarians and contributing generally towards a balanced formation of members. Others like the liturgy committee, the seminary choir, and the ordination committee are formed by the seminary authorities. These have more specific tasks related to the liturgical life of the seminary. Each of these associations/committees has a staff adviser.
NIGERIA MAJOR SEMINARIES ASSOCIATION OF PHILOSOPHY STUDENTS (NIMSAPS)

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CATHOLIC THEOLOGY STUDENTS (NACATHS)
All theology students shall join this association. NACATHS is an association of theology students from the numerous theologates in the country. Their aim is the furtherance of students’ interest in theological studies, and the adaptation of such to Nigerian religious and secular life. In this way, the universal church is also served. Their annual meeting rotates between the seminaries.
THE SEMINARY PRESS CLUB
The press club is a voluntary association of students who are interested in the practice and promotion of the art of communication. The members co-operate to produce and publish a magazine known as PERISCOPE, to inform, educate, and entertaining their readers. The editor, general manager, and other officials of the publication are students.
NAMISEM SCIENCE ASSOCIATION (NASCA)
This is a scientific association that welcomes students from both the philosophy and theology departments of the seminary who are interested in science. Members of this association take interest in the developments in science and technology. They organize workshops and seminars yearly to enlighten people on various topics in science and technology.
THE THEATRE GROUP
The theatre group exists for the promotion of dramatic-poetic talents among the students, for the entertainment of the seminary community and its guests. The members of this group use their recreation and other spare time to learn and rehearse the plays they stage.
THE MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT GROUP
This group is known as the ‘Voice of Salem’. The members are skilled in singing, modern dancing, and the playing of musical instruments. They often practice at recreation times. They perform both on social and liturgical occasions, like ordinations, and other social occasions during the year.
THE SEMINARY CHOIR
The choir plays an important role in the liturgical life of the seminary. There is a formal practice each week and in addition to weekly general choir practice for all students. The choir learns and renders sacred pieces in most of the Nigerian languages and in other languages too.
THE ORDINATION COMMITTEE
In preparation for the annual event of priestly ordination, the whole seminary community is constituted into one large ordination committee. The whole group is then divided into subcommittees for the planning and execution of various functions, all geared towards the success of the ordination and other related matters, such as the hosting of guests. This committee is ad hoc in nature and ceases to function when the ordinations are over.
THE CATHOLIC CHARISMATIC RENEWAL MOVEMENT
This is a pious association, whose membership is open to both the students and the staff. The members come together for charismatic prayer on Sundays.
PAULINES FOR LIFE MOVEMENT (PRO-LIFE ASSOCIATION)
The members of this group seek to promote respect for human life. They are engaging in the worldwide effort, spearheaded by Human Life International (HLI), to enlighten the world on the evils of abortion, and to discourage its practice. They also try to discourage the use of contraceptives and the spread of pornographic material. They seek to promote and pray for respect for the rights of the unborn child.
THE LEGION OF MARY
This is a pious association whose members are devoted to the honouring of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Their members engage in works of mercy such as the visitation of the sick, praying for various church and community intentions, and in such apostolic works as the teaching of catechism, pastoral visitation, and the preaching of the Gospel, especially in the neighbouring communities.
THE PIONEER TOTAL ABSTINENCE ASSOCIATION
The members of this pious association have as their aim, the promotion of temperance in society. They abstain from the use of alcohol as a sacrifice towards the achievement of this goal. They also pray for and offer materials services to alcoholics.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
This is a pious organisation whose members are dedicated to helping the poor in imitation of their patron St. Vincent de Paul. They organise collections and also appeal for material and cash donations, which they then distribute to the needy members of the society. The care of prisoners receives special attention.
SACRED HEART OF JESUS AND IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY
The members of this pious society have as their obligations prayers for the establishment of the social reign of the Sacred Heart. They have one-hour adoration, prayer meeting, etc. every Thursday.
BLESSED IWENE TANSI PRAYER GROUP
This is a pious association with a special devotion to Blessed Michael Iwene Tansi. The members meet on regular basis to offer prayer and petition to God through the intercessions of Blessed Tansi.
HOLY FAMILY ASSOCIATION
Members of this pious association strive daily to bring themselves and their families, both biological and religious under the protective hand of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. They have as their model the Holy Family of Nazareth.
